This 4 week wheel throwing intensive is for students who have previously taken at least three, 7 week wheel throwing courses. You must be comfortable throwing 4+ lbs. of clay.

This class is focused on learning to throw larger and shape a traditional Korean moon jar. You can expect to complete 1-2 larger pieces.

Teacher bio:

Itai Lavie is a NYC based artist and ceramicist who specializes in wheel-thrown Korean pottery. He crafts forms like the Moon Jar using traditional Korean techniques. Interested in the history of Korean decorative arts, his work explores the intersection of heritage, craft, and contemporary design.

With a background in various mediums, Itai creates sculptures and installations in stone, wood, metal, clay, and plaster. blending traditional methods with innovation to render cultural and visual narratives.

Included:

  • access to 3 clay bodies
  • 2 hours of Open Studio hours (Sundays only!). During open studio you will have access to the space to work Independently. There is no instruction or guidance during open studio hours. missed open studio time does not roll over. Open studio does not run after the last class
  • Underglaze, assorted brush on glazes and a clear dipping glaze.
  • Tools available for use.  (**All outside tools must be clearly labeled).

Extra fees:

  • Firing is .07 per cubic inch. **Firing fees are accepted via cash, Venmo or Zelle.

Class Schedule:

  • 6:30-6:50: Demonstration
  • 6:50-9:10: Guided and Independent practice. Additional demos by request. I will circulate providing one-on-one attention on the technicality of your wheel thrown or hand built projects.
  • 9:10-9:30: Clean up and closing meeting

What To Bring

  • Clothes that can get dirty
  • Tools: if you’d like to use your own
  • An apron and a hand towel that you will bring home with you at the end of each class.

 

Make Ups & Cancellation

Students may swap into another class to make up for an absence. One makeup class allotted per session. No make ups after class ends Full refunds are offered if cancellation happens up to 2 days before a class starts. No refunds less than 48 hours before the class begins. It is free to transfer credits to another class or service as long as there is room available. A substitute attendee may be named by the booking party at any time
